Nebraska Department of Transportation Offers Tips to Avoid Gridlock

Upcoming Huskers Football Game to Draw Large Crowd

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is reminding drivers to expect heavy traffic in the Lincoln area Friday evening as the University of Nebraska Huskers host a rare Friday evening football game against the Purdue Boilermakers. The game is expected to draw a large crowd to Memorial Stadium, and NDOT is urging drivers to plan ahead to avoid gridlock.

NDOT recommends that drivers allow extra time to reach their destinations and consider using alternate routes to avoid the stadium area. The department has also activated its Incident Management Team to monitor traffic conditions and respond to any incidents that may occur.

Drivers can expect traffic delays on Interstate 80 and other major highways leading into Lincoln. NDOT is also advising drivers to be aware of increased pedestrian traffic around the stadium and to use caution when driving in the area.

In addition to the traffic advisory, NDOT is also offering the following tips to help drivers avoid delays:

  • Allow extra time to reach your destination.
  • Consider using alternate routes to avoid the stadium area.
  • Be aware of increased pedestrian traffic around the stadium.
  • Use caution when driving in the area.
  • Monitor traffic conditions on NDOT's website or through the department's mobile app.
