Early Life and Education

Rishi Sunak was born on May 12, 1980, in Southampton, England.

He attended Winchester College, a prestigious boarding school, and then went on to study philosophy, politics, and economics at Lincoln College, Oxford.

Political Career

Sunak was elected to Parliament in 2015, representing the constituency of Richmond (Yorks).

He served as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Local Government from 2018 to 2019, and as Chief Secretary to the Treasury from 2019 to 2020.

Chancellor of the Exchequer

In February 2020, Sunak was appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer.

He was responsible for overseeing the UK's economic response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and he implemented a number of measures to support businesses and individuals.

Prime Minister

On July 5, 2022, Sunak resigned as Chancellor of the Exchequer, citing differences with Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

He announced his candidacy for the leadership of the Conservative Party, and was elected leader on September 6, 2022.

Sunak became Prime Minister on October 25, 2022.
